Art- Betzi Lievens
Hello! I’m Betzi Lievens, a fine artist and educator in Monroe MI. My creative journey really took root during my time at Monroe County Community College before I moved on to earn my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the College For Creative Studies in Detroit. I’m best known for my vibrant, emotional paintings of women, often using a mix of acrylics, oils, watercolors, and charcoal to capture the tiny nuances of the human experience. Whether I’m inspired by a deep conversation or a piece of art history—I have a particular soft spot for Van Gogh and Goya—my goal is always to create something that resonates on a personal level.
These days, you can find me:
- Teaching: I’m currently the art teacher at Holy Ghost Lutheran and Meadow Montessori School, where I love helping students discover their own God-given talents.
- Sharing Art: I frequently lead workshops and lectures, such as the MCCC Visiting Artist Series, where I get to walk others through my creative process.
- Exhibiting: My work is regularly on display at local spots like DaCapo Coffee in Temperance and various galleries around Toledo and downtown Monroe.
For me, art is about authenticity and finding beauty in the details that make us human.
